Questions people ask

Is this calculator free?

Yes. There's nothing to sign up for, and everything you type is worked out in your own browser, so it never leaves your device.

How up to date are the fees?

Every fee was checked against the platforms' own Australian pages on 13 Oct 2026. When a platform changes its fees, the calculator is updated and the change is added to the fee changes log.

Why does the buyer pay more on some platforms?

Vinted, eBay and Depop add a fee on top of your price that the buyer pays. It doesn't come out of your money, but it changes what the buyer sees, so each result shows what the buyer pays as well as what you keep.

Are the prices in Australian dollars?

Yes. Every figure is in Australian dollars and includes GST, as the platforms show them.

What does “I want to keep…” do?

It works backwards. Tell it how much you want to end up with, and it shows the price to list at on each platform, ranked by what the buyer would pay in total.

How this is worked out

  • Vinted: no selling fee. The buyer pays postage and a Vinted fee, which Vinted's price list says is usually 5% + $1.20. Vinted · Vinted fee calculator
  • eBay Australia: free for Australian sellers without a Pro plan, up to $25,000 of sales in 12 months. Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee of $0.30 + 8% of the price up to $20, 6% from $20 to $500 and 4% from $500 to $5,000. Sellers over $25,000 move to Pro Starter: 13.4% of the total sale for most categories plus $0.30 an order, including GST. eBay free selling, eBay Pro fees · eBay fee calculator
  • Depop: no selling fee for Australian sellers since 22 Jul 2026, but payment processing of 2.6% + $0.30 on the item price plus postage. A sale from a Boost costs another 8%. Buyers pay a marketplace fee of up to 5% + $1. Depop · Depop fee calculator
  • Etsy: US$0.20 listing fee (about $0.30), 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 processing on item plus postage, then 10% GST on fees unless you're GST registered. Offsite Ads add 15%. Only handmade, vintage (20+ years) and craft supplies are allowed. Etsy fees, Etsy Payments
  • Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree: modelled as local pick-up with cash or bank transfer, which is free. Optional paid promotion isn't included.
  • Postage: the starting figure of $11.70 is Australia Post Parcel Post in your own packaging, up to 500 g. Change it to match your parcel. See the postage guide.
  • Selling your own unwanted things is generally not taxable. Selling regularly to make a profit can be a business, which the ATO taxes. See tax on selling online.
